Narrative Challenge 2: High School Troubles
Wednesday 4 November 2015
Narrative Challenge - Level 5 & 6
Design for another - plan a story using an agreed format. After completing the plan, write the first sentence of the story then swap planning with a partner and complete each other's story. Not only will you get experience in a different genre or topic, but seeing how someone else approaches your own project may give you a perspective you haven’t considered before.

Title: High school troubles
The smarty pants (know it all) ~ Waine
The too cool for you student ~ Jace
The really shy student ~ Claire
Banana, Blood and knife
I walked into the classroom and everyone was listening to the teacher giving a lecture about how alcohol is bad for you. I know exactly who she’s directing this too. The ‘too cool for you’ kid. Jace. He probably sneaked alcohol in school again. “You’re late for class. Again.” Miss Erene said coldly. I blushed, feeling my cheeks turning a bright red. “I’m s-s-sorry. It won’t happen again.” I said, sitting down on the uncomfortable wood chair. Yes. You’ve probably already realised, I’m the shy student. Claire. I hate being stared at, being the centre of the attention whilst Jace love it. I stared at him, seeing him having a smirk on his handsome face. I would do anything to slap that smirk off his face and to break his nose so I don’t have to see his pretty face ever again. “That’s five over four plus x to the power of two.” I heard someone say from behind me. I turned around and saw him. Of course it would be him. Waine. The smarty pants student. He looked so modest sitting there whilst he was writing something else in his really weird maths book. I sighed to myself and took my notebook out. Forty five more minutes till the end of period one. Great.
…
The bell rang, my head pounding from being too close to the bell. Everyone fought to get to the door and to eat their morning tea. I finally made it out the door and to the cafeteria. On the way there, I saw the janitor's closet door open. That’s always closed. I shuffled across the floor and looked in. There was no one there. “Uhhh. Excuse me ma’am. What are you doing?!” a scruffy noise said behind me. I turned around, once again blushing for the second time today and looked at the tall figure hovering over me. It was the janitor. “Oh sorry. I-I saw the door open- and I thought that maybe you were dying. I wanted to save you, cause if you were dying in there and I saw the door was open and I didn’t check on you and then I later on found out you were dead. I would never live with myself. Like imagine-” I rambled. “Ma’am. It’s okay. I understand.” He said grinning. I sighed in relief and kept making my way to the cafeteria. I sat on a chair and started eating my banana alone. No one likes me. As you can see. Oh well. I was halfway through eating my banana when suddenly a reflected light caught my eye. I saw someone passing it under the table to Jace. What was that? Probably just a mirror or something. I kept on eating my banana and made my way to the bin to throw it away. I wiped my hand on my jeans and freed my hands from the sticky substance. Another reflected light caught my eyes. It looked the same thing. I looked at the object closer and focused and saw what I don't ever wanted to see. I just wish I stayed oblivious. I wish I just ignored it. It was knife. A huge silver knife with a black handle, with blood dripping from it. Blood. Why was there a knife at school, with cherry red blood dripping from it. “Claire!” I heard Jace calling out my name from the other side of the cafeteria, giving me the most dangerous stare you could ever imagine. I slowly made my way there, dodging the tables silently. Million of thoughts were swarming through my head. “Ye- yes?” I said politely. “I saw you. You were staring at the knife. You saw it.” He said. He stood up walking up and coming close to my ear whispering the following words that made my blood freeze. “You’re not going to say anything to anyone princess, cause if you do, you won’t live to see the next day. Got it princess?” I nodded furiously and practically ran across the cafeteria. What?!
